Wine industry fears for US exports
The wine industry is worried the high New Zealand dollar will cause exporters to lose ground in the important United States market.
The New Zealand dollar is trading at about 74 US cents.
Winegrowers CEO Philip Gregan says wineries are already feeling the pinch and if the dollar stays at the extreme levels for any period of time it could undermine export growth.
Gregan says the high dollar is already impacting on profitability of the US market in particular and is forcing exporters to reassess their market development.
