LCBO to charge deposit on liquor and wine bottles

TORONTO (CP) - Premier Dalton McGuinty will announce a new plan Sunday to have consumers pay a deposit on liquor and wine bottles at LCBO stores and return them to Beer Stores for refunds.
McGuinty says it’s no longer a matter of whether there will be deposits charged on liquor and wine bottles in Ontario, but when, adding it’s “an idea whose time has clearly come.”
The premier has refused to comment on reports consumers would get the deposits on liquor and wine bottles back by returning them to Beer Stores, which already operate a successful deposit-return system for beer bottles and cans.
But McGuinty has an announcement scheduled for Sunday morning at the Beer Store distribution centre in Brampton, where sources say he will unveil the new plan.
Unlike the beer bottles which are returned to be refilled, the clear liquor and wine bottles will be separated from the coloured bottles so they can be recycled into glass products…
