It’s time to harvest the wine grapes

It’s the time of year when local wine growers are harvesting the plump, juicy ripe grapes off the vines.About 20 friends and family members were picking grapes among the vines at Long Creek Winery on Sunday.

This has become a tradition at the winery since 1999, as owners, Lou and Yola Cecchi, have family and friends who volunteer to pick.

“It’s a labor of love,” said Pam Starkey. “We enjoy the camaraderie and Yola puts on a big lunch for us afterwards and we taste some of the wine, too. And, it’s fun.”

“It’s cool this morning,” said Sam Starr. “And the grapes are gorgeous.”

Right now the cooler temperatures are beneficial to the grape harvest…
