China: Four brands contribute a half of the output of wine

According to Wang Qi, president of the Wine Branch of China Alcohol Drinks Industry Association, the four brands (Changyu, Great Wall, Dynasty and Weilong) contribute 51.49% of the national output of wine.
On the China West Grape and Wine Industry Development Forum held in Yinchuan several days before, Mr. Wang Qi said that there was a high density of wine production in China. Although there are 26 provinces producing wine, 93.76% of the wines are produced by only ten of them. The ten provinces are Shandong, Hebei, Tianjin, Jilin, Xinjiang, Beijing, Henan, Gansu, Ningxia and Yunnan. 60.71% of the wines are produced by top ten wine companies.
From January to July 2006, the so-called above-scale wine companies achieved a wine production of 250.63 thousands kiloliter, a total assets of 13.749 billion Yuan, a total business revenue of 7.17 billion Yuan and a total profits of 811 million Yuan, which increased respectively by 20.20%, 9.60%, 27.82% and 12.12% on an annual basic.
