Chicago law restricts access to wine over Web

Gov. Blagojevich signed a bill Wednesday that would restrict access to order wine from the Internet. The legislation, which goes into effect June 1, 2008, allows both in and out of state wineries to ship up to 12 cases of wine per year directly to a consumer. Wineries must obtain a winery shipper’s permit from state regulators. It brings the state into compliance with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that requires in-state and out-of-state wineries be treated equally.
